A few weeks ago I received my blogger package from Red Apple Lipstick and I am so excited to tell you how I got on with them! I’ve done a new format for this review – let me know if you like it!
Red Apple Lipstick is a small-ish company out of the USA that sells safe, natural makeup. AKA – paraben-free, gluten-free, lead-free, soy-free, vegan-friendly, cruelty free AND it’s infused with Vitamin E so that your lips feel beauuuutiful after using their products.
Things that I’ve really noticed about Red Apple Lipstick since first contacting them include their speediness when it comes to replying to inquiries, their friendliness (seriously, AMAZING customer-service) and how down-to-earth they feel. Jay Harper, the brain behind RAL, sends out emails making sure you received your order, that you liked the product…seriously, it’s amazing. Their customer service is something all companies should aspire towards. It has definitely made me want to try out more of their products!
The Red Apple Lipstick blogger program allows you to select two lipsticks that are sent pro-bono through USPS (and then through Canada Post if you’re Canadian like I am). I went scurrying over to their website and was a bit overwhelmed with my choices. It’s not that they have TONS of products per se, but they do have an amazing selection. Before picking out my lipsticks, I hadn’t realized that RAL also does eye products in addition to lipsticks, glosses, balms and exfoliators. I didn’t really look at anything other than lipsticks, but I’m intrigued to go back and have a look at a later date!
My only qualm with the website is this: not enough swatches. There are lipswatches of all of the lipsticks with different skin tones, but I would personally love to see arm swatches as well. There were a few arm swatches, but it wasn’t consistent. I have a hard time imagining a colour on lip swatches purely because you can’t tell the opacity and everyone has a different lip colour, but arm swatches are much easier for me to get a feel for.
Now, the part you were all waiting for. The actual lipsticks. Before I get to the formulation and my colour choices – have a look at that packaging. It is so beautiful! I didn’t realize that a black tube could make me so happy, but there is something about the weight of it in your hand and the textured bottom that just feels so satisfying and makes the products feel very high quality.
The lipsticks themselves are super hydrating (thanks to that Vitamin E) and packed with colour. The two I chose, Hibiskiss and Pinkle Twinkle, have a bit of a frosty finish to them which I’m honestly not the hugest fan of and I think that all of RAL’s lipsticks have this finish. At least I didn’t see any distinction on the website. I would love to see some velvet finishes from them. I was also super impressed with the lasting power – I didn’t expect much considering how hydrating they are, but they do last for a few hours. When they do fade they fade evenly and don’t showcase any dry patches or deep lines in your lips, which is just fantastic.
I was a tiny bit disappointed with the colours I ordered because the swatches on the website were a bit misleading, but the more I’ve played, the more I’ve started to enjoy them.
Pinkle Twinkle is a cool-toned light orchid pink that I can see myself enjoying in the spring. It’s also amazing to layer on top of other colours to cool them down a bit – I love using MAC Viva Glam as a base and adding just a little bit of Pinkle Twinkle on top.
Hibiskiss is more in my comfort zone. It’s a blue-toned pink that is just a shade or two brighter than my natural lip colour, so it’s really fun for a slight pop of colour . This is one of the colours that seems to make me look more awake, so I’ve been really enjoying popping it on on those mornings when I feel (and look) a little groggy.
You can order Red Apple Lipstick products from their website here. Their lipsticks are US $23.50 each, but they often have sales and promos going so definitely watch out for that if you’re interested!
Have you tried anything from Red Apple Lipstick? I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments!
