This weekend is Canadian Thanksgiving and despite not being in Alberta with our families, Dylan and I have managed to garner a dinner invitation anyway. One of his new university friends is hosting a small get together and I am very grateful to have been invited and look forward to meeting her! I thought I would share my holiday makeup look with you before I go off to to stuff myself full of turkey and mashed potatoes! 😉 Enjoy!
First up is the base. I’ve been working on using up Benefit’s That Gal primer, which I have been enjoying more and more as I use it. It’s light while still giving that great primer coverage that so many have come to expect from Benefit’s primers. I find it really helps hide my oversized pores while keeping my foundation in place for longer. Speaking of, the foundation I have been really loving lately is Bourjois’ Healthy Mix Serum in 51 Vanilla Clair. I don’t know why I waited so long to pick up this foundation because it is absolutely stunning – it gives great coverage while being light on the skin and it doesn’t transfer at all, which is something I’ve had issues with in the past. I don’t need much concealer when I use it, but I did have a few spots I needed to cover as well as the ever-present dark circles, so I pulled out Bobbi Brown’s Creamy Concealer in Cool Sand, which is actually a bit dark for me to use on my face, but is great for the dark circles.
I set all of that with Urban Decay’s All Nighter Setting Spray, then added just a tiny bit of The Body Shop’s Honey Bronzer in 01 and e.l.f.’s Blush in Mellow Mauve to banish the ghostly paleness. I set that again (what can I say, I’m determined to make sure it stays in place) and then filled in my brows with Revlon’s Brow Fantasy, using a combination of Brunette and Dark Brown.
I primed my eyes with NARS Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base, then used a combination of essence’s eyeshadow palette in All About Nude and the Maybelline Colour Tattoo in Pomegranate Punk for a budge-proof smokey eye. I lined my eyes with my trust Rimmel Scandaleyes eyeliner in Brown, which I smudged out for a softer look. My mascara of choice is my favourite right now – Makeup For Ever’s Smokey Extravagant Mascara which I just can’t get enough of. It lengthens and volumizes with only one coat so that you barely have to try.
I hummed and hawed over my lipstick for a while, but ultimately went for Wet’n’Wild’s Mega Last Lipstick in Wine Room. It’s a beautiful dark pink which I am surprisingly in love with for more reasons than just the fact that it is super creamy and long-wearing. I am definitely more of a red lip kind of girl, but I think I might just be starting to be converted to darker pinks and nudes.
I can’t get over how much I’m enjoying this look, and while I keep thinking I want a vampy lip, this pink really works for me! I have a feeling this might be a start to a beautiful friendship.
Happy Thanksgiving, Canadian friends! Enjoy your turkey coma’s this weekend. 😉
