You may remember me hauling the Essence “All About” Nude eyeshadow palette back in September and now that I’ve had some time with it I feel like I am in a good place to really review it.
I am still really loving this palette – I feel like it is a more compact version of Urban Decay’s Naked 3, but I will get into that more in a bit.
The essence All About Nude palette is so perfect for fall. The shades are the cool toned neutrals that I reach for constantly during this time of the year. I am especially loving shade 2 and 3. Shade 2 is a light champagne-ish pink that has a barely-there shimmer and is a “my lids but better” kind of shade on me. It adds just a hint of colour for those days where you just want to swipe on one colour and go. I’ve been really enjoying using shade 2 when I do winged liner, actually. Shade 3 is one of those shades that goes with everything. I always use this one when I’m using this palette, usually in the outer third of my eyelid when I do a smokey eye.
As I’m typing this I’m looking at the shade swatches and I just can’t get over how versatile this little palette is. From day to night, you could really do it all with the essence All About Nude palette.
Now…for the really exciting part! The comparison between All About Nude and Naked 3!
As you can see, the essence All About Nude palette is damn close to the Naked 3. (Note: Shade 2 and 4 from the essence palette don’t have separate shades in Naked 3 – they are both closest to Dust.) For the most part, essence’s shadows have more shimmer in them (with the exception of Dust, which is crazy shimmery) and honestly, the softness factor varies so much in both palettes that I can’t say for certain which one is better in that regard. If I had to choose though, I’d probably say that All About Nude’s dark shades are softer, whereas Naked 3’s lighter shades are softer.
These shadows aren’t as blendable as the Naked 3 shadows, but considering the huge price difference ($5 for All About Nude palette, $64 for Naked 3…seriously) you really can’t go wrong. Especially considering the stunning pigmentation. I mean…just look at those swatches. Yowza! I did notice that there was a bit of a spray over on each shade that you had to wear off in order to get to the actual formula, so that’s something to keep an eye out for.
Since I realized All About Nude’s dupe-factor I have to say that my love for it has doubled. I am so eager to go and play with it some more!
The essence All About Nude eyeshadow palette is available at Shoppers Drug Mart for $5.
