REVIEW | Aveeno Fresh Essentials Skincare #FreshEssentials

This post contains products that were sent to me for my consideration. Go here for my disclosure policy.

I hate to admit it, but before trying out the Aveeno Fresh Essentials line, I had only ever tried one Aveeno skin care item before – an anti-aging eye cream. I love their hand and body lotions, but for some reason it had never occurred to me to try out anything for my face.

The Fresh Essentials line in particular was designed to combat stressors to the skin – whether that be environmental or poor diet. Essentially, Aveeno wants to make it easier for folks living hectic lifestyles to have bright, nourished looking skin. The products contain an ingredient I haven’t encountered before this called Southernwood Extract, which is supposed to help protect your skin from become dried out thanks to environmental stress. I did some research and didn’t find anything on any skincare benefits from Southernwood Extract, though it’s supposed to be good in tea. So despite not knowing if this Southernwood Extract is actually beneficial to the skin or not, I’ve got to say that I’ve been really enjoying the products in this line.

Aveeno Fresh Essentials

There are three products in the Fresh Essentials line: a daily moisturizer, night cream and a daily exfoliating scrub. I’ve been using these for about a month in combination with my normal skincare routine and my skin has definitely been showing the effects – it is more radiant and definitely more hydrated than it was before I started using this line. But let’s break it down, shall we?

Aveeno Fresh Essentials Daily Exfoliating Scrub

This scrub is very light and creamy so it doesn’t dry out your skin. It’s not harsh at all, so it’s perfect for daily use and it’s not messy like some scrubs can be. This scrub doesn’t contain any of those nasty plastic beads that are so bad for marine ecosystems – the exfoliating properties come from coconut pulp and natural luffa. It’s also oil-free and hypoallergenic, so I think it would be great for those of you with sensitive skin. I have my doubts if it would be strong enough if you have a lot of dry patches, but for oily or normal skin the Fresh Essentials Daily Exfoliating Scrub is perfect.

This scrub lives in my shower so I can use it in the morning and I have definitely noticed a difference in my makeup application on the days when I don’t use it. Needless to say the Aveeno Fresh Essentials Daily Exfoliating Scrub has become a new favourite of mine!

Aveeno Fresh Essentials Nourishing Moisturizer (SPF 30)

This is a super light moisturizer that still packs a moisturizing punch. It’s once again oil-free and hypoallergenic and is also non-comodegenic so it won’t clog pores (phew). It does however have a very strong floral scent to it that can be a bit over powering when you first use it, but it dissipates very quickly. I think this will be my go-to summer moisturizer because it is so light and has a great SPF.

Aveeno Fresh Essentials Hydrating Night Cream

The night cream might be my least favourite of the three products purely because it’s in a tub instead of a pump, which I prefer. Despite that and the floral scent, which is once again a little strong for my liking, this is another great product. It does what it says it will – it hydrates without clogging any pores. I’ve been really liking it after particular cold or windy days because it just brings my skin’s hydrating right back to normal. The Hydrating Night Cream is also super light in comparison to most night creams that I have tried – it’s lighter than the Nourishing Moisturizer, actually. But that doesn’t mean it packs any less of a hydration punch. My skin is so silky and plump the mornings after I use it.

The Aveeno Fresh Essentials line has been a big hit for me and although my skin is still grumpy and acne-prone it is definitely looking healthier in a moisturized and glow-y sort of way. The line hasn’t really helped with the oiliness of my t-zone, but really, that can’t be helped, can it? It hasn’t made me any more oily, though, which I think says something. I honestly think the Fresh Essentials line would be good for any skin type unless you’re bothered by fragrance as it is super moisturizing without being oily.

What’s your favourite Aveeno product?

  1. Hey Jodi, we actually don’t get Aveeno here (I know), but I have tried some of their products when people got them for me from the States. I have actually used a cleansing gel from this line, but that was quite a while ago!

    • I’m kind of fascinated by the different brands in different countries, and what does and doesn’t get sold where, so it’s really neat to hear that this isn’t sold in Belgium, though it is sad!

  2. I was surprised at how scented all the products were as well!
I liked the scrub as well until I saw that it still contains polyethylene which still sort of freaks me out…it made me sad because it really was a nice consistency.
