Project Make a Dent 2016

Project Make a Dent

At the end of December I decided I was going to do Project Make a Dent this year. I had considered doing one last year, but it just didn’t quite work out. For those of you who don’t know, Project Make a Dent is where you pick products from your makeup/skincare/body care/etc. collection to make a dent in during the year. I’ve done a few of these mini projects seasonally, but if I really want to use up some of these bigger products (like powders and lipsticks) it’s easier to do it throughout the full year. That way I don’t feel like I can only use the products I’ve chosen like I’ve felt in some of my other use up projects.

Project Make a Dent

For this year’s Up Up 2016 I chose products that I’ve either made a decent dent in already or that I needed to use up within the next year (or sometimes both). The first product I chose is actually the first foundation I ever purchased from Sephora – the Bare Minerals READY Foundation. I go through spurts of loving and hating this powder, but in the last few months I’ve really loved it. It’s not nearly as dark on me as it looks in the pan so it makes the perfect setting powder for when I need a little bit of extra coverage. Like when I use my Marcelle BB Cream – it’s super light coverage and while I love the formula, my acne scarring doesn’t really allow me to use such light coverage foundations. I’ve marked my usage on the bottle in the photo above to where I think I am – it’s so hard to tell.

I also pulled out the NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in San Paolo to use up. It’s definitely more of a spring/summer shade for me, but I want to put an effort in to using this more before it expires because I really love the formula. I also decided to put my Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain in Romantic in here because I really want to get myself back into wearing red lipstick more often. The Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stains are so easy to wear and Romantic is just a little bit more red than my natural lips, so it’s the perfect reintroduction.

My L’Oreal True Match Concealer is getting old, but I love using it to colour correct under my eyes when it’s too dark for the rest of my face (like it is right now). It’s got enough coverage and doesn’t crease or cake, so it has turned into my new every day under eye concealer. I don’t think it’ll be hard to use up. One that might be a bit more difficult to use is the essence Gel Liner in Urban Jungle. It would’ve been more difficult, but I snapped the lead in half right before taking the above photo, so I’ve already done half of my work for me. 😉

If you’ve been a reader for a while you will recognize the Maybelline Color Tattoo in Bad to the Bronze from many failed attempts to use it up in the past. I’m about halfway there, but Color Tattoos have started to slide around on my eyes no matter what I do, so we will see if I get fed up and just get rid of it or if I keep struggling through it. The other two eyeshadows I chose are from an Urban Decay 500 Point Perk from Sephora. I think I got it in January of last year, so it’s getting up there in age. I love Skimp to bits, so it’s already seen quite a bit of use, but Bustis needing a bit of love. If I can use both of these up this year I’ll be super happy, though I have to admit that the shimmer in Bust makes it a bit more difficult to use.

I think I have chosen products that I’ll enjoy using (for the most part, anyway) and that are going to be fairly easy to use up. Are you doing Project Make a Dent this year? Leave me a link if you are, I want to cheer you on!

  1. You do just like me and leave blanks where I need to look up the names of things, but you’ve left a few un-named! Just thought you might like to know. This is a great great idea Jodi and I’m sure you’re going to kick butt! I’ve never been one for finishing products, but my goal is to mix it all up and use everything more.

  2. I’ve never done one of those, but I do a monthly empties post. It’s so much easier to use up skincare than makeup! I had to throw out my favorite LE Maybelline Color Tattoo, and I was crying because it dried out and they don’t make that shade, boo hoo. I’ve hit pan on an Almay Softie Shadow and a ColourPop – does that count?

  3. I’ve tried a mini project before but it was harder than I thought. Maybe, I should pick products which are almost half empty if I attempt to do it again. I agree with Allison, it’s easier to empty skincare than makeup. I’m excited to see your progress! 🙂

  4. I have already mentioned my Lipstick and Nail polish lockdowns where I don’t buy new lipsticks and nail polishes until I used up my current stock pile which I had pretty good results with a few that I stopped using because they just don’t work or are FINISHED and in my January EMPTIES bag! 🙂
