I’m not a huge fragrance and perfume junkie, but if I do wear scents it’s always from Demeter Fragrance Library. Demeter sells individual scents that you can combine yourself to make an entirely custom scent and I love playing around with them! It’s absolutely perfect for custom blending to your mood so when I was given the opportunity to play with Demeter Fragrance Library’s Duo and Trio Blending sets I was really excited. These sets are comprised off either two or three scents that will mix together beautifully for fear-free blending.
The two sets I got to play with are the Vanilla Foolproof Blending Trio and the Grass/Dirt Foolproof Blending Duo. Vanilla is a classic scent and one of my all time favourites, so of course I was excited about that trio, and I love fresh scents so the grass/dirt duo is totally up my art.
The Demeter Fragrance Vanilla Foolproof Blending Trio contains Angelfood, a sugary sweet vanilla that reminds me of my grandma and childhood birthday’s; Hawaiian Vanilla, a mixture of vanilla bean and a light floral note; and Gingerbread that smells like…well…gingerbread! The Foolproof Blending Trio is a custom kit with Grass, a sweet, fresh scent that makes me think of warm summers spent outside and Dirt, an earthy scent very similar to grass, but with a bit more heaviness to it. Grass and Dirt are beautiful on their own, but I love to add in a spritz of Angelfood to take me right back to my childhood growing up on a farm in Alberta.
The Foolproof Blending Duo also comes with an empty bottle, droppers and a funnel so that you can create your own scent. I was a bit nervous to actually put the scents in a bottle together – what if I messed up? What if I used up all of one scent because I kept messing up? – but in the end I realized that I should think of it as playing. If I’m going to create something that reminds me of childhood I might as well have fun with it!
I ended up combing Angelfood, Gingerbread and Grass for a spicy, yet sweet scent that has a hint of greenery on the end. I’ve never smelled anything like it, and while I didn’t quite get the childhood memories thing I was going for I really love it! I have no idea what to call it though…Dirty Gingerbread? Clearly I need to have a bit of a think on that one.
