New Year, New Updates

Hello everyone and welcome to 2017! I took a bit of a break from writing, reviewing and makeup in general around the holidays but I’m back and excited to be writing again.

Dylan and I went home to Alberta for the holidays for a much needed visit with both my family and my in-laws. It was so so so so lovely. We hadn’t gone back to Alberta since we moved (2+ years ago) so it was so amazing to be surrounded by all of their lovely faces again. The nieces and nephews had grown up so much and they were so fun to be around. I really hope we get to go back sooner rather than later.

Oh! And I met Rae and Rebekah while in Edmonton! We went out for dinner, and meeting them both (finally) was just the best. They’re such sweethearts, and I’m pretty sure Rae and I could talk cats all day and be happy.

That being said, leaving Korra home was awful. We missed her so much! Pretty much every night we went to bed one of us remarked on how we missed hearing the pitter patter of her little claws on the floor as she came to join us, or how she brings us her stuffed hedgehog at night. It was such a happy reunion! I very nearly cried.

Since then, I’ve just been enjoying having some time off and being back in Halifax. Classes start up again next week, and this week I’ve started working again, but even so it’s been nice to have some quiet time. I’ve been playing SimCity, which I picked up for $5 on sale, and learning to crochet…and trying desperately not to nap all day.

What I haven’t done is think about beauty things much lately. I have a pile of products waiting to be tested, but I’ve been really enjoying keeping my skin bare lately. Instead of makeup and skincare testing, I put my efforts into sprucing up the ol’ website a bit. New year, new layout? I love how bright and clean it is, and it feels less cluttered than the old one. There are still a few things I need to tweak, but all in all I’m loving how Up the Rollercoaster looks. I hope you do too!

As for the future? Well, things are going to be changing a little bit ’round here. Don’t worry, I’m not going anywhere, and I’m not quitting beauty blogging. I am going to be tilting my focus a bit though. I’ve become inundated with stuff and I really don’t want to have any more of it, so I’m going to be try to bring some more makeup looks into the fold.I’ve gotten so serious (and also lazy) with my makeup, so I want to encourage myself to play more! Another thing that I want to focus more on is beauty that alines with my values a bit more: I’m going 100% cruelty-free, y’all. I know that I’ve talked about it before, but I wasn’t ready to take the plunge yet. Now I can say that it’s time. With that, I’m also going to dip into the green beauty world. I dabbled a few years ago, but I was still so interested with having the latest and greatest that I wasn’t so into it. Now that I’m ready to cut back on some of my consumerism, I’m definitely ready.

Not that I’m saying there’s anything wrong with wanting the latest and greatest launches, or coveting all of the lipsticks or eyeshadow palettes or whatever. There’s nothing wrong with that at all! I’m just not there anymore.

Anyway, I’ve really enjoyed sitting down and writing this very rambly post, and hope that you’ve enjoyed reading it. I hope you stick with me while I go through this little transition and haven’t been scared off by this wall of text. 😉

Much love!

Wedding Wednesday: The Wedding Dress

Where do I even begin with this post? For so many women, the wedding dress is the most exciting – and most daunting – aspect of the pre-wedding day planning. With so many different styles, price points and sometimes colours, how on earth do you find the dress? Well, of course you’re going to need to do research – whether that be trying on half a million dresses or scouring Pinterest and bridal magazines for weeks or a combination of both. With reality TV like Say Yes to the Dress this step is easy and tons of fun. I know before finding my dress I spent hours researching, pinning and reading like a crazy person.

FOTD | Bridal Edition

I am a planner. I need to have a plan to let go of stress. Yet, for my wedding day, I had no plan for my makeup. I had two looks in mind: a bold lip and a more neutral eye, or a neutral lip with a bold eye. But I couldn’t decide which to do. I had tried them both and liked bot, but I just couldn’t decide what to do. So in a very out of character move, I winged it. To an extent at least.

I’m Married!

I have been a bit of an absentee this week – at least from connecting with you guys, if not in posts – as I got married last Saturday!!! Say whaaaaat!

ImageLookit how cute we are. Baaaaaw.

It was an amazing weekend all around. Dylan and I went to my parents where we held the ceremony on Wednesday to get settled and start getting things ready (though we didn’t really start until Thursday) and spent the rest of the time with my family and some of our friends who came to help out. One of my best friends drove up all the way from Mississippi to be at the wedding!

Bridal Skin Care Routine

I’m getting married on June 7 (boy, how many times can I start off a post like this? hehe) and I, like most brides out there, want my skin to look radiant when I say my “I do’s” to my fiance. I’ve been practicing a skin routine that is pretty fantastic, if I do say so myself, for a while now that I wanted to share with you.

For the record: my skin is normal, with an oily t-zone and acne issues.
